Your subconscious might be resisting your desires

Recurring problems are often the result of our body and nervous system's limited capacity to be with the energy of our deepest desires. Here's how to expand that capacity.

One idea to contemplate

If there’s something you’ve wanted for an extended period of time, but haven’t yet achieved, your subconscious might be pushing it away, in the false belief that you don’t actually deserve it.

Three questions for you

What’s something you’ve been craving for at least more than a year? How would achieving your goal feel in your body? Does that feel joyful and expansive or frightening and confining?

An experiment to try

Step 1: Identify all limiting beliefs that might be holding you back from believing that you deserve your goal. Step 2: Question each of them and list three ways how it’s not true. Step 3: Feel the expansive and joyful feeling that achieving your goal evokes in you for seven minutes per day for the next week, and as often as you can throughout the day. Set a reminder on your phone.

Quote to ponder

“Whát I dó is me: for that I came.” – Gerard Manley Hopkins

What’s on my mind

My car broke down during the weekend, stranding me about 2.5-hours away from home and throwing off my plans. I noticed how dependent I’m on it and how having access to it makes me feel that the world is my oyster. I also noticed how attached I’m to it and how it feels much more like a friend that’s been with me during highs and lows than like a pile of metal.

Instead of mentally fighting the circumstances, I found myself surrendering to them and actually counting my blessings. And as a result, what would have otherwise been an unpleasant and burdensome process of dealing with it, actually felt quite enjoyable.
